Southern Cross Marine Supplies Australia , Southern Star Marine Supplies China & Southern Everise Singapore - the Southern Group. Were please to participate in the recent Posidonia Exhibition in Athens. Represented by Jim Costalos, Con Costalos, Chris McGregor, Li Yonghong & Andrew Chee.

The exhibition was held at the Metropolitan Expo Centre close by the Athens International Airport for the third consecutive time, broke all records. The exhibition attracted a record 22,000 shipping industry professionals. Over 1800 exhibitors from around the world participated. The visitor count was 14% over the 2014 event. Indications are 2018 will be ever greater, with strong demand already in place.

This year’s conference (the 25th) hosted many key dignitaries, including Greece’s Prime Minister , Alexis Tsipras, IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim and EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc. The Lord Mayor of London , Lord Mountevans .

The Southern Group were very pleased to see many of its Customers and friends visit our Stand Number 4-232 to share a drink and a chat.

SOUTHERN STAR CHINA RELOCATES

A short 2 years after inception Southern Star Marine Supplies Co Ltd has moved to larger state of the art premises in the heart of the Shanghai ship supply precinct of PuDong New District.

The warehouse comprises 1600 mtr meters of dry space, 80 cubic meters of Freezer area, 150 m2 of Chiller and 300m2 of office & accommodation space.
This allows SSM to operate with efficiency and professional structure adding to the high quality service already SSM has become known for in China.

SOUTHERN CROSS to SPONSOR IMPA 2014 – LONDON

Southern Cross Marine Supplies will be assisting IMPA in the sponsorship of the Annual Dinner.

IMPA is the International Marine Purchasing Association where Southern Cross have been members since inception in 2004.
IMPA was formed in 1978 by a group of senior purchasing executives who wanted to create an industry “voice” to represent the interests of the purchasing profession with shipping and promote close co-operation and understanding between buyer and supplier. IMPA now has over 600 members across the world. Ship Owners, Ship Operators, Ship Managers, Ship Caterers together with Manufacturers and Ship Suppliers. Jim Costalos is the Australian Ambassador for IMPA.

POSIDONIA 2014

Southern Cross Marine Supplies & Southern Star Marine Supplies were pleased to participate in the recent Posidonia Exhibition in Athens. Represented by Jim Costalos, Con Costalos, Chris McGregor, Cesco Finato and Li Yonghong.

The exhibition was held at the Metropolitan Expo Centre close by the Athens Airport for the second time proved to be the most successful event in the history of the event. More than 1850 exhibitors from 93 countries took part. Posidonia remains the leading trade event for the shipping industry. Down the years the Greek owners have always shown a profound understanding of shipping markets and the global economy, and in this way Greek shipping acts as a bellwether for the industry as a whole, something Posidonia has always tried to reflect.

The 24th Posidonia was opened by the Prime Minister of Greece, Antonis Samaras, in the presence of various international dignitaries. These included the EC vice president and Commissioner responsible for Transport, Siim Kallas, US acting maritime administrator Paul Jaenichen, President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli and shipping ministers from Cyprus, Hong Kong, Liberia, Malta and the UK.

JIM COSTALOS - ASSA CHAIRMAN

Southern Cross is pleased to inform that at the recent ASSA (Australian Ship Suppliers & Services Association) held in Darwin, Jim Costalos was unanimously appointed as Chairman of the Association.

Jim was a founding member of the association in 1980. Jim has held the Chairmanship on 2 previous occasions (1991/92 & 2001/02 ) as well as Vice Chairman 1985,88,89,90,2011,12. This position is in addition to the important position of The IMPA Ambassador to Australia.

GSM RELOCATION

Southern Cross to Sponsor IMPA 2013 - London

Southern Cross Marine Supplies will be assisting IMPA in the sponsorship of the pre-event networking reception at the House of Parliament, followed by dinner at Doubletree Hilton in London September 2013.

POSIDONIA 2012 in Athens

Southern Cross Marine Supplies & Southern Star Marine Supplies were pleased to participate in the recent Posidonia Exhibition in Athens. Represented by Jim Costalos, Con Costalos, Chris McGregor & Li Yonghong.

The exhibition was held for the first time at the state of the art Metropolitan Expo Centre close by the Athens airport. The available space was 45,000 square meters and an estimated 17,000 visitors from 90 countries attended. Despite the overall glum news of Greece’s economic and political turmoil, Posidonia succeeded in keeping up numbers and clearly expressed the positive light of the Greek shipping. Which continues to be a beacon – an international ambassador for the country.

Annual data prepared by Lloyds Register/Fairplay and issued by the London based Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee show that in March, the Greek controlled fleet had reached a record 264 million dwt with 3760 ships. The average of the ships is now 10.5 years as against 20.3 years in 2000. A study from Petrofin shows that there are 762 Greek based Shipmanagement companies. Out of this just 34 companies operated fleets of 25 vessels or more.

The 2012 even was the largest ever and considered to be the “best ever”.

The Management of Southern Cross are pleased to announce the appointment of Kenny Ngai to the operations of the Company based in Brisbane which includes Purchasing for Queensland ports and local marketing. Kenny will join the Brisbane team on the 26th March and brings with him a wealth of experience, to add to the already experienced team. Kenny 41 years old ship supply professional. Previous appointments with Marincorp Singapore, Southern Ocean Singapore and recently as Purchasing Manager for IST Marine Singapore. Kenny is fluent in English, Chinese, Malay & Indonesian languages.

Southern Cross Marine Supplies were pleased to participate in the recent Posidonia Exhibition in Athens. Represented by Jim Costalos, Max Petersen & Con Costalos together with the subsidiary company Southern Ocean Supplies Singapore represented by Kenny Ngai.

The exhibition was opened by the Greek Minister of Economy, Competitiveness & Shipping – Mrs Louka Katseli. There were 1858 exhibitors covering 87 countries. A total of over 17,000 visitors attended the week - long event.

The 2010 event was the largest ever and a great success overall, especially under the current difficult economic circumstances and challenges facing Greece at this time. Showing a positive light on the future of the maritime industry.

There has been much communication and confusion recently regarding the fate of Legend Nautilus Australia.

It is our pleasure to announce that the business of Legend Nautilus Australia is now under the control of senior LNA staff (past & present) under a new entity known as Southern Cross Marine Supplies Pty. Ltd.

PFD Food Services have exited the ship supply industry, whilst negotiations are underway for a delivery agency agreement with Sealanes.

Traditional Ship Supply will re-emerge with individual Family Companies united around the coast of Australia offering the Best of the Best within the industry.

SERVICE WILL BE PARAMOUNT, QUALITY AND PRICE - THE BALANCE

All previous LNA contracts and agreements with ship owners and managers will remain in place to be honoured to the best of our ability.

We shall maintain a new Group Sales and Marketing office based in Adelaide headed by Jim Costalos. This will be the Communication Centre for ease of communication and distribution to the entire Australian network.

The previous LNA marketing telephone, faxes and email lines will be diverted to the Southern Cross GSM office to enable a continuation of > smooth transactions.
